June 10, 2014momstownRecipeNo comments
An easy, no chill sugar cookie recipe that is also a lot fun for anyone who likes dinosaurs!
Preparation Time: 15
Cooking Time: 8
Yield: 24
Description:

Our momstown mamas and kids love to get in the kitchen and make delicious treats together. This month for our Junior Chef program, we gathered at The Pan Tree and Callingwood Recreation Center to make some fun Dinosaur Fossil Sugar Cookies. The kids loved being mixing and adding the ingredients, but the part they loved the most was using the small dinosaurs to make imprints in their dough. It was fun to see how they very carefully planned where they would make their imprint and what part of the dinosaur they would use! And of course, they all loved being able to EAT their creations after!

Ingredients:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
round cookie cutters
small dinosaurs (washed)

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and extracts.
  3. Mix flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter mixture 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition.
  4. Do not chill dough.
  5. Divide dough into 2 balls.
  6. On floured surface, roll each ball into a circle approximately 12 in. diameter x 1/8 in. thick.
  7. Dip round cookie cutter in flour before each use.
  8. Press the small dinosaurs into each cut out cookie. Push down fairly deep to make a good imprint. Use the feet to make footprints or press the side of the dinosaur in to make a full imprint of it.
  9. Bake cookies on ungreased cookie sheet 8 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned.
  10. Let cool and enjoy!
