For children who are struggling or falling behind in their lessons, it can often be intimidating to ask for help. They don’t know how to even begin to improve their grades and can become frustrated by their limitations. They key is to provide a supportive environment, where children are encouraged to ask questions and interact with teachers and other students.
Metro Continuing Education’s Saturday Cool School program affords students the opportunity to learn in a comfortable classroom setting and receive valuable attention from their teacher. Here, the goal is not only for their marks to flourish, but for their self-esteem to as well. Students are given the opportunity to improve course marks, enhance study skills, build lifelong learning strategies and make new friends. There are typically less than 10 students per class, allowing teachers the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with each of the students throughout the class. Cool School is the Edmonton Public Schools’ alternative to privately-run tutoring programs. All classes are taught by certified instructors and are based on provincial curriculum.
Metro’s one-of-a-kind Cool School enrichment program is offered at two sites: a north location at Londonderry School and a south location at D.S. MacKenzie School. For elementary students, Math and Language Arts are offered. For Junior High Students, Math, Language Arts and Science are offered. Term 2 begins on Saturday, January 26 and runs every Saturday until March 16.
No matter what stage in your life your child is at, it’s never too early to build lifelong learning strategies. Whether your child has difficulty in a particular subject area or wants to reinforce basic concepts, Saturday Cool School is the answer.
